The Free Sheet
An acre of art
Since 1990, Studio 6001 has presented its Spring Opening. Sunday, founder Moris Wolk provides an acre of land for more than 20 seasoned and budding artists to display works in a variety of media. The artists have crafted paintings, sculptures, stained glass and even clothing for this public event.
Picnic jam
Known for its mellow but stirring sounds, the Bridge is a natural choice for a relaxing outdoor concert. The jam band incorporates elements of funk and blues and has performed at the All Good Music Festival. Temple Oheb Shalom hosts the band for its annual picnic and outdoor concert on Sunday.
A sure hit
The Wiffle ball was introduced in 1953 as a new type of lightweight ball that could easily curve and sink. Saturday and Sunday, Reedbird Park will host the "Get Wiff It" Baltimore tournament and festival, two days of competition and celebration. Highlights include competitive Wiffle ball games, games of skill, food and music.
Speed reading
With its annual book festival and regular homages to Edgar Allan Poe, it's no surprise that Baltimore is home to many writers. Tonight five such writers and poets, Baltimore natives and new arrivals, come together for the rapid fire Three-Legged-Dog Reading. This Minas Gallery event features both prose and poetry readings by Merrill Feitell, Matt Hart, Amanda Nadelberg, Paul Otremba and Adam Robinson.
