Glimpsed
Marty Disney
Glimpsed: Pratt Street
Sam Spade has nothing on Marty Disney. This former Baltimore homicide detective makes a case for arresting fashion sense. In his previous career, he knew how to take a statement. Now, he knows how to make a statement.
Marty Disney
Age: 49
Residence: Owings Mills
Job: MetLife financial services representative
Self-described style: "I dress in a suit every day."
The look: Grey felt fedora. Fabiani Razzi black suit. Black dress shirt. White pocket handkerchief. Silver Donald Trump woven silk tie. Black Ecco oxfords.
Where it came from: The hat came from Hamburger's about 30 years ago. He bought the suit at The Hat Box in Pikesville. The shirt is from Jos. A. Bank. The tie and the shoes are from Nordstrom.
Dress to impress: "[Fashion] isn't entirely important to me. But, when I'm with clients, I like to look good. ... I think about my clients, what wouldn't offend them. ... I have five kids. So, I don't shop often. I need to get a lot of wear and tear out of my outfits. They have to last. Take care of your clothes, they'll take care of you."
Tip of the hat: "This is the same hat I was wearing the day I met my wife. Her attention was drawn to the hat, and of course my attention was drawn to her. ... I pulled this out today. I haven't worn this hat since I retired [in 1996] from homicide. ... But my style comes from my days working as a homicide detective in Baltimore."
Making a statement: "I like wearing black. ... I like to stand out a bit, get away from the staid, the conservative. That's why I prefer shirts with color; blues, pinks, blacks. ... I have several Jerry Garcia ties, and I have to be very much in the mood when I wear one."
And today's outfit is for ... : "Actually, our boss is taking us out to lunch to Fogo de Chao."
