The best kind of volunteering involves getting your hands dirty; the Shedd Aquarium's kind also means spending a day at the beach.
For its new Great Lakes Action Days, volunteers will help with invasive plant removal, maintaining trails, planting native flora and collecting data for citizen science projects. Programs take place at the 63rd Street Beach, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the Illinois Beach State Park and Openlands Lakeshore Preserve. Next events: July 10, 12 and 26.
And in the return of the Adopt-A-Beach series, Shedd is asking for help with monthly cleanups at the museum campus's 12th Street Beach. Next is 12 noon on July 17.
