Pitchfork announces new film website

This July, Pitchfork Media plans to launch an expansive Chicago-based movie website called The Dissolve (thedissolve.com), staffed largely by veterans of The Onion’s AV Club.

Founder and editorial director Keith Phipps will be joined by editor Scott Tobias, along with senior editors Tasha Robinson and Genevieve Koski; staff writers Nathan Rabin and Noel Murray; and, lately of Indiewire.com, news editor Matt Singer. Reached Thursday, Tobias said that in addition to reviews, features, video-on-demand coverage and commentary, the site will showcase retrospective pieces “reaching back into 100-plus years of film history.”

The Dissolve’s offices are located in Logan Square, he said. “Nice and quiet. And there’s parking,” he noted. “Everyone’s getting paid well, with benefits. They’re real jobs.” All credit, Tobias said, goes to Phipps: “This is his idea; he brought it to Pitchfork; and he wanted to keep the AV Club team together.”
