'Senna' -- 3 stars

PG-13; 1:44 running time The subject is three-time Grand Prix world champion, the Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna. He and his rival, the Frenchman Alain Prost, drove for the same team for a key part of their respective, overlapping and fantastically competitive careers. Senna's life ended in tragedy in 1994. The man's contradictions and the fierce, reckless strains under Senna's surface calm are treated with discretion bordering on fuzziness in "Senna." Yet the film is a remarkable experience on a purely sensory level, and the best of its archival footage -- on the track, in private meetings with drivers before the races, from the white-knuckle, over-the-shoulder perspective of Senna himself -- is pure gold. -- Michael PhillipsRead the full review
