'Gypsy' ★★★½

If you like your Mamas Rose to be of the old school -- the Ethel Merman type of stage mother - as distinct from a more nuanced or revisionist kind of Mama -- then Klea Blackhurst's classic interpretation of the greatest character in this musical masterpiece is for you. The orchestra has rarely sounded louder at the Drury Lane Theatre, but it's no  match for Blackhurst.
