Seth MacFarlane may be a talented showman, but he was appalling as an Oscar host--there's comedy, and there's inexcusable misogyny, anti-Semitism and other material that should never make it on stage.

He can be pretty serious but has also showed his commitment to the comic moment on "Saturday Night Live." In other words, JG-L could navigate both the Oscars' attempts at funny and the more restrained moments that require sincerity.
