This episode made me happy. There may be hope for this season yet.
At camp, in night cam after Tribal Council, Sabrina now has a big ol' target painted on her back because she's smart, straightforward, people like her, and she's articulate enough to convince a jury to see things her way. Alicia think she's in a pretty good position right now because she's none of those things. For once, I agree with her.
Treemail is product placed, and leads me to believe that reward will be calls to home, but as always, the family and friends are already on the island. Everybody gets a brief video message from their loved ones, just to get the tears flowing early. Tarzan talking about his wife even makes me like him a little. He must be going home this week. Sabrina agrees with me, and would like to see Tarzan get the reward as well, since he's the only one with a spouse here, and a spouse of 30 years at that.
Reward challenge, and Jeff wastes no time in mentioning the product placement, before he brings out the loved ones. They planned the timing of this well; just when all the Survivors are annoying the heck out of me, the producers have to remind me that they are human, and have family that they love. Kat and her cousin freak me out a little, though. Well, just Kat, really -- her cousin seems normal. Tarzan is very, very sweet about his wife.
Winner gets to whisked away to a spa with their loved one, but the caveat is that they also have to do the challenge with them. The challenge is to work your way through a tangled mess of ropes wrapped around a long post. Kim and her equally as athletic sister do well right off the bat, but Chelsea and her dad, and Kat and her cousin also do well. Kat and her cousin win, and get to choose someone else to go with her. She chooses Kim and Alicia, because she's dead inside, apparently.
The upside of this is that it gives the rest of the tribe a chance to plot against them, which Kim is smart enough to realize. Kat is too busy celebrating winning, and poor Kat, she thinks that Alicia and Kim are actually her friends. Meanwhile, Kim is telling her sister that she may go with Alicia and Kat to the final three, not because they're friends, but because no one likes Alicia and Kat is an airhead.
Back at camp, Sabrina is really pissed off at Kat for not picking Tarzan and Christina, and calls her a "bratty 22-year-old." I hope Sabrina doesn't get voted off for making a big deal out of this. Chelsea, surprisingly, brings up voting off Kat this week. Maybe Chelsea is realizing that Kim might not want to be in the final three with her. I hope so, because although Kim is playing a great game, I'd still prefer Chelsea win over her.
And then, in the next minute, Chelsea is talking to Kim about voting of Sabrina because she's a threat. I hope she's pulling one over on her. Both Kat and Kim agree about Sabrina going. We'll have to wait and see if Chelsea agrees.
I notice no one is talking about getting rid of Tarzan. Wouldn't it be awesome if he pulled out a bunch of wins at the end and then they couldn't get rid of him? I bet all the men would vote for him, too.
Immunity Challenge Time. This week, it's an endurance challenge, standing on a log over the water and having to hold onto what looks like a water-skiing rope. Jeff slowly lets out slack in the rope, making it harder to keep your balance. Shortly after the 10 minute mark, Sabrina steps of the log, and is the first out. Tarzan is next out. Alicia gives up after 20 minutes, and Chelsea follows shortly after. It comes down to Kat and Kim, who both last over and hour, but Kim wins it.
Kat is upset because she wanted to win. I've noticed in the last couple of episodes that Kat doesn't deal well when she doesn't get what she wants. Chelsea agrees with me, but we'll see what happens. Probably nothing.
Kat is upset because she lost to Kim, who is the advanced age of 28 and apparently should be using a walker by now. Alicia is also now on board with Kat leaving, since she did too well at the challenge. Kim does not agree, but hopefully, for once, Kim won't be running things and Kat will leave tonight. Either way, Sabrina or Kat, the person leaving tonight is not going to see it coming.
Tribal Council time, and wow does Troyzan look bitter walking in. Kat is talking about winning the challenges, and how people being disappointed hurts her feelings, and there's a round of WTF faces amongst both the contestants and jury members. Sabrina points out that the sensitive thing would have been to pick Tarzan and Christina, and Chelsea points out that Kat hides behind her age (I'm only 22!).
All this talk is making me hopeful that Kat's going home, but I've been disappointed this season (a lot). By the end of the discussion, before voting, Kat is visibly sulking, but then calls the possibility of blindsiding someone "fun and exciting." Oohh, that sentence is just full with possible schadenfreude (if you don't know what that is, Google it).
Yay! It was indeed laden-with-the-schaden, and Kat leaves the Tribal Council are crying, and for one of the very few times this season, I am happy at the end of a Tribal Council.
Next week: Tarzan seems to be losing his very tenuous grip on reality.
Credits: Christina takes her blindside about as well as you'd expect her to. To sum up, "It's not fair!" but with more words and more crying and whining.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
