Everyone knows I’m Team Damon, so the Elena kiss was the highlight of the episode for me. Too bad Jeremy broke it up before it got even hotter!
So tonight Elena and Damon go get Jeremy in Colorado, because they know Klaus knows where he is. Also they wanted him to contact Rose, so they could try to trace Damon’s and Stefan’s vampire bloodline to one of the originals.
Rose points them to Mary, the vampire who turned her, but when Damon and Elena show up at Mary’s house, Kol has already killed her.
No solutions on the bloodline front tonight, which is a good thing for Caroline, who was reunited with Tyler this episode. (They also had a decent make out session!) If Damon discovers he is not a part of Klaus’ bloodline, he will kill Klaus, thus killing Tyler since Tyler is a part of Klaus’ bloodline.
While Damon and Elena are away, Stefan watches over Alaric, trying to get his evil side to come out so he can find out where he hid the remaining white oak stake.
Only when Stefan tries to kill Alaric does his alter ego come out to play. Stefan threatens him and he confesses the stake is in the cave.
Rebekah takes Alaric’s evil side to the cave to retrieve the stake. She tells him she is not Rebekah; she’s Esther (the originals’ mother) in Rebekah’s body. (Earlier in the episode, Esther came to Rebekah, telling her she was dying. She touched Rebekah and it had appeared she had died, but clearly she just transferred bodies.)
I expect Esther/Rebekah and evil Alaric will make an interesting team. But it probably won’t last more than an episode or two.
Other highlights from tonight’s episode:
Best Damon Quote(s): Damon to Jeremy: “What good is you dying and coming back to life if you can’t talk to a ghost when I need you to?”
Best Words Used to Stick it to Someone: Elena tells Damon: “It’s what you do Damon. You sabotage things. Every time there’s a bump in the road, you lash out.”
Best Moment of Insight: “No, he’s not you. He’s the darkest parts of you, parts we all have,” Stefan tells Alaric, who said his alter ego is driven by himself.
Most Romantic Moment: Damon and Elena are lying in bed, and Damon grabs Elena’s hand. She clearly feels a spark, an urge. But she gets up and goes outside. Damon follows her. Elena, having trouble breathing and composing herself, says: “Don’t.” Damon responds: “Why not?” He pauses, then continues: “Elena ...” Elena can’t help herself; she runs over to Damon and starts kissing him. They continue in a passionate make out session until the commercial break.
Best Quote to Summarize the Series: Elena asks Damon why he doesn’t let people see the good in him. He responds: “Because when people see good, they expect good. And I don’t want to have to live up to anyone’s expectations.”
