This week’s episode was one of the more dramatic of the season, with the build up beginning in the season opener showing the Amanda at the bottom of the ocean.
When we saw that there was a man on board it was hard not to assume it was Jack that had gone down with his beloved ship, but our wishes were answered when it turned out to be Nate, because he really was the worst.
The Grayson’s managed to put two targets on Amanda’s back — with Nate as well as the Initiative. It will be interesting to see if it is obvious that Nate was the reason for Amanda’s death, and if the Initiative will find it all too convenient that the Grayson’s scape goat happened to disappear.
The Graysons will also assume that their troubles are behind them, since they believed Amanda held the key to their blackmail, but little do they know it was Emily all along, and now a fire has been sparked in her and the Graysons are about to get hit like they’ve never imagined. Emily’s anger coinciding with Conrad’s run for Governor should prove to be quite destructive.
With Helen out of the picture, we meet another man behind the Initiative, who asserts his power by delivering Padma’s father’s finger in a box to her. The mystery surrounding Helen’s death seemed to be pushed aside all too easily, and now that Amanda is out of the picture who will be punished for the disappearance?
The one thing I was happy to see this episode (aside from the end of Nate) was some real emotion from the characters. Nolan’s cry of "I would do ANYTHING for Jack" was almost comical in its seriousness, but pulled at the heart strings that he cared so much for his friend.
Emily’s tears over Amanda were probably the first time we have seen her cry for anyone other than her father, and it was nice to know that she really did care about Amanda, and wasn’t just using her as I sometimes suspected she was.
This episode was intense enough that I am almost willing to ignore the absurdity in the lack of Coast Guard response to a boat exploding, Emily’s quick glance at the picture that Charlotte had been studying all day and immediately noticing Nate, Emily’s face driving the boat with that fake background, and every time Nolan threw in a technical term in the search for the boat.
"I’ll just get it from Jack’s cloud,” seemed unnecessary.
But, all in all the drama of the episode made it worth the build up, and we will have to stay tuned for how Amanda continues her Revenge on the Graysons.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
