It has been a few weeks since we’ve seen our favorite Hamptons characters, especially since when we last saw them they were in sunny California.
This week they were back on the chilly East Coast — even the middle of the summer can’t warm the hearts of this crowd. The beach wedding of Jack and Amanda is overshadowed by Conrad and Ryan’s business plans for The Stowaway, and Emily’s flashbacks to her childhood wedding to Jack. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.
When Emily discovers that Conrad has taken part ownership in The Stowaway she insists that she loan Jack the money to get out of debt. “The Graysons always have a hidden agenda,” she argues. Which is true, but in the words of Nolan, "careful who you are calling black there, little kettle."
Amanda finally is able to reason with Jack to take the money, and when he questions how Emily knew about Conrad’s part ownership Amanda responds, “She found out. She’s Emily, she just knows these things,” which Jack accepts, since truer words were never spoken. Emily has her pulse on all things at all times, and no one ever seems to find this odd.
When Conrad won’t go for the buyback Amanda steps in, taking credit for most of Emily’s meddling, and blackmails him to go along. This girl knows how to get things done!
Nolan begins to wonder what made Padma turn on him and if perhaps the Initiative is blackmailing her as well. When he proposes this idea to Emily she basically responds, “I don’t care,” which is nice of her to remind Nolan that even though he drops anything for her, she will not be returning the favor anytime soon. However, I’ll put that aside to be excited that Padma is still a nice girl and there is hope for Nolan and finding some true love.
Over at Grayson Global we continue to pretend that Daniel is commuting from his parent’s pool house in the Hamptons to his office in New York City as if that’s nothing, and as if any 24-year-old CEO would willingly live at their parent’s house, especially when Victoria is one of the parents in question.
The Initiative is planning something big, and while we don’t know what it is, Victoria knows Daniel’s life is on the line. For all the plotting and scheming these people do, they manage to never have any increase security or consider that they are being watched. When Helen casually strolls into the Grayson house to inform Victoria of her serious mistakes, Victoria finally pulls the trigger, and we’re finished with Helen.
So far she has been the only face to the Initiative that we have seen, and she seemed to be calling most of the shots, so we’ll have to see what happens with her out of the picture.
Emily continues to show her cold side, illustrated by the turtleneck sweater she is wearing as she sits by a bonfire, alone, in the middle of the summer.
She argues with Aiden about what to do now that they have confirmed that his sister is dead, and has been for six years. Aiden says he doesn’t have Emily’s ability to turn her emotions on and off, to which she responds: “Is that what you think? That I don’t feel?” Yes, Emily, that is exactly what I, and most of the viewers, think.
She did show a soft spot for Aiden when she almost ignored Daniel’s phone call, until Aiden insisted she pick it up. And just when I thought Aiden and his dreamy voice were gone, he appears on a cliff, looking on as Emily cries through Amanda and Jack’s wedding. Is he sticking around?
It proved to be a very rough day for Emily, with the wedding of her first love, Aiden potentially leaving, and Daniel breaking up with her. Daniel seemed to be up to something in that break up, so we will have to see if he was just trying to keep her out of harm’s way, or what he has up his sleeve. Daniel isn’t one for bold moves, so I’m not holding out too much hope on him.
Jack and Amanda decide to sail to Nantucket for their honeymoon (I won’t even get into how if this was remotely real Jack would never choose Nantucket and they would be sailing off to Block Island, but the writers are probably in California so they do not know these things), but little do they know that Nate Ryan has decided to stowaway on their boat, to get revenge for buying back The Stowaway (see what I did there?!).
Next week looks like it will be a dramatic episode, and one which will answer the question of what was going on in the season premiere with the sunken boat. My only question is how Nate plans to escape blowing up a boat in the middle of the ocean that he is on ... and who will survive!
