Watch out London -- the much-anticipated vacation has arrived and the first half of the trip seems to be going a lot smoother than we expected.
The London crew
LuAnn, Carole, and Sonja arrive in London only to be greeted by a lovely British gentleman who will chauffeur them to the hotel. After the ladies arrive and check out their penthouse suite, Carole takes them to Notting Hill, a neighborhood in London that she lived in after she left ABC news.
Meanwhile Heather is being the high-powered businesswoman that she is and attending her last meetings with Yummie Tummie international. Although Heather can be a bit strange a times, the girl must be doing something right since her brand has only been in existence for four years and has already gone global.
Next, LuAnn does some more fake British accents and Sonja explores the massive bathtub in the hotel. And by explore I mean sprawl herself into the empty tub fully clothed ... in true Sonja fashion.
Later that night the ladies meet Heather at her business dinner with representatives for Yummie from over the world. All of a sudden Heather turns into a camp counselor and asks everyone at the table to stand up and say their name, where they are from, and why them love Yummie. Ice breakers at dinner? Okay, Heather ... whatever works for you.
Carole is not feeling the "introduce yourself" game and is way to cool to stand up for her turn. But when it's Sonja’s turn to say something, she surprisingly speaks eloquently about how impressed she is with the people at the table and how honored she is be in their company. I'm liking this side of Sonja. She is just much more coherent when Ramona isn't around.
The next night the ladies decide to stay-in for a room service and booze-filled girls' night. It's such a rare thing for any group of "Real Housewives" ladies to genuinely enjoy each other's company without giving subtle jabs at each other.
They had all the ingredients for a successful middle-aged-women sleepover: alcohol, a Polaroid camera (because apparently people still use those), Scrabble, and a dirty card game.
Back in New York City
It's obvious that Aviva was feeling left out of the "cool crowd" since she stayed back in NYC due to her various phobias. But it didn't stop her from getting a bit closer to Ramona.
The two decided to go shoe shopping but Ramona was very curious as to how shoe shopping with someone with a prosthetic leg would work. As a viewer of the show, I've seen Aviva show the other ladies her leg about four times now -- but none of them reacted like Ramona did.
As Aviva pointed out, you'd think she was showing her leg to a 6-year-old. Ramona's expression was simply embarrassing. You are supposedly a successful, professional woman -- put your game face on and put the bug-eyes away.
Later, Ramona gives a speech at The Learning Annex to talk about her career as a successful businesswoman. For some reason, whenever that woman opens her mouth I cringe.
She's one of those people that you can envision making a fool of herself in public yet you can’t look away. And, as a complete paradox, we saw Heather talking about her brand and its success on a British talk show. She does it so effortlessly that Carole says she would be a producer's dream.
Aviva and Reid have a double date with Ramona and Mario at some swanky restaurant in the city. Ramona keeps trying to make herself feel better about being excluded from the trip. She convinced that they aren’t having as much fun in London as they are at dinner (meanwhile in London they are playing sex card games and have a photo shoot in their PJs).
Once again Ramona takes the opportunity to bad talk Heather and says she is constantly acting fake to her. Honestly, what Ramona doesn't understand is that there is a difference between being fake and being civil.
Heather isn't interested in creating a friendship with Ramona, which she has the right to do. So, instead of being rude and ignoring her, she chooses to be friendly instead of dismissive.
Towards the end of dinner Aviva and Reid invite Ramona and Mario to their home in Florida for a weekend.
Aviva, I am very confused with your friendships these days. One minute you are dreading hanging out with the Ramona in NYC while the rest of the ladies are jetting off the London and the next you are inviting her and her husband for a couples weekend?
This chick needs to get her friendships strait. This bouncing back and forth does not work well in the world of "The Real Housewives of New York City."
Sonja's countdown: 3
The number of times Sonja mentions that Heather doesn't wear a bra.
Carole notices that LuAnn always tries to one-up her and turn the conversation to herself.
LuAnn says that Heather's ghetto fab attitude could inspire her to write a new song ... perhaps something along the lines of Gangster Chic.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
