Evoking family nostalgia with a little sparkle, the Concord Fizz at Timonium's Five: A Martini Bar, adjacent to and owned by the Christopher Daniel restaurant, is a punchy drink for the holiday season.
Add in rosemary, a key ingredient to this grape- and gin-based cocktail and you even get the Christmas tree.
Bar manager Eric Myers found inspiration for this unique martini in an unlikely place. "I've wanted to use grapes in a drink forever. I remembered loving my grandmother's grape jelly meatballs with rosemary; the two played really well off of each other. I thought, why not in a martini?"
His innovation pays off. Myers muddles fresh Concord grapes with homemade rosemary simple syrup, then pours prosecco over the top. Hendrick's gin, the key spirit, is added to balance the acidic grapes, replacing the typical gin after-bite with a sweet and fizzy fruit taste.
Smooth and layered, with a touch of the bubbly, this is the perfect drink for a Christmas Eve or New Year's party. Thanks, Grandma!
How to Make the Concord Fizz
2 parts Hendrick's gin
2 parts prosecco
1/2 part rosemary simple syrup
1/2 part lemon juice
6-8 Concord grapes
Pinch of sugar
In a martini glass, add sugar, pour prosecco. In mixing cup, muddle grapes with simple syrup. Add lemon juice and Hendrick's, then shake and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.
