Hot Cider & Vodka at Bertha's( Alexis Jenkins, for The Baltimore Sun / December 10, 2013 )
For years, hot buttered rum has been a winter favorite at Bertha's. This year, manager Bernard Lyons tried something new: Apple cider with Smirnoff Kissed Caramel vodka ($6). It's dangerous -- you can just barely taste the vodka -- but also delicious, and less sweet than you'd imagine.
The cider helps balance out the caramel, and the cinnamon stick garnish doubles as an aromatic straw. Just be prepared to wait a few minutes; it takes a while for this cocktail to cool down enough to comfortably sip it. Better still: The staff is more than happy to make a non-alcoholic Hot Cider for your kids. It's not nearly as fun, though.
