Great Maryland cocktails: the Dragon My Balls at Brass Balls Saloon

For 34 years, Brass Balls Saloon has been a go-to location on Ocean City's boardwalk, providing live entertainment daily and a whole lot of hilarious "balls"-related puns.

To no one's surprise, and much to my 13-year-old's sense of humor's delight, the cocktail menu is no different.

While widely known for introducing the Rum Runner to the Mid-Atlantic via Key West, Fla., alongside nearby Seacrets, Brass Balls Saloon's vast party cocktail menu doesn't disappoint with its summery blends. Ice cream drinks, crushes and various tropical libations fill out the selection, including the Dragon My Balls (hilarious!).

The Dragon My Balls is indeed a fruity good-time cocktail consisting of Bacardi Dragonberry, DeKuyper Watermelon Schnapps, sour mix and a splash of Sprite, if you prefer. While the Bacardi Dragonberry is far more intense in the flavor department than real-life dragonberry, a mild cactus fruit found at many Asian groceries, it winds up providing a plenty tasty drink.

The tart flavor mellows out nicely with the watermelon liqueur, especially when mixed with the citrus-lime Sprite and sour mix. It's a refreshing boardwalk party waiting to happen. Opt for less Sprite if you want a less sweet Dragon — the remaining ingredients can carry the weight enough to make it just as refreshing an experience.

Bartender Chance Ebel noted that while the drink sounds delicious (and is), many patrons can't bring themselves to ask for it out loud, for some ... ahem ... reason. "Multiple ladies will never say what the drink is. They just point at the menu and ask for it," said Ebel. No need for bashfulness, bargoer. You're among friends — say it loud, say it proud.

Ask for it by name: Again, it's the DRAGON MY BALLS. You'll be glad you did.

How to make the Dragon My Balls
