There's little left to be said that hasn't been done so by countless food reviewers, television personalities and locavores alike when it comes to Woodberry Kitchen's much lauded farm-to-table cuisine.
Its reputation precedes itself. But having said that, the cocktail menu — which is just as top notch as the food menu in a lot of ways — deserves a great deal of credit at the hands of bar manager Corey Polyoka. The alcoholic creations put together by Polyoka are seasonally inspired, fresh, locally sourced and above all else extremely tasty.
Picking a single drink out of the list of available libations is difficult, but for my money the easiest-to-tackle cocktail with a heaping helping of pop is the Tracks by Tracks. Its ingredients are screamingly refreshing; Dancing Pines chai liqueur set the stage with fresh-squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup and ginger beer all coming together to form a party in your mouth. A sprig of mint adds to the aromatic profile.
The mint isn't muddled, but rather the leaves upon bruising release a little bit of that essence to the head, mixing into the affair without being a part of the liquid. It's an interesting, and as I said before, extremely tasty, drink experience.
A slice of cucumber garnish adds to the color, which is best saved for last so it can absorb the flavors dancing around in your silver julep cup. Combine that moment with a seat outside overlooking Clipper Mill's pool area and modified old industrial surroundings, and you've got yourself one perfectly unique summer moment.
How to make the Tracks by Tracks
1 1/2 oz. Dancing Pines Distillery Chai Liqueur
1/2 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup
Cucumber slice, mint sprig to garnish
Combine liqueur, lemon juice and syrup in a silver julep cup (or any cup available), top with crushed ice and ginger beer, stir. Garnish with a solid mint sprig and slice of cucumber.
