By now, you're out of exciting ways to celebrate the new year. But you're forgetting one — a glitzy, glam little option just down the road, at Arundel Mills in Hanover: Maryland Live Casino.
Get dressed up and pretend you're a member of the Rat Pack all night — and I do mean all night. The great thing about the place is that they're open 24 hours. nearly 200 table games, a Rams Head Live stage, and several nightlife spots that just won "Best Of" awards from Casino Player Magazine, you'll have no trouble getting into trouble. Don't forget the most important part, though: treating yourself to a few fancy cocktails, like the Brandy Chill, "a creamy and decadent take on the classic Brandy Alexander," notes Seth Gibson, assistant beverage manager for Maryland Live.
Gibson and company serve up drinks at the Prime Rib, which just won Best Steakhouse for 2013 in the gaming industry. The city's branch is legendary so you can bet you'll be in good hands at their bar here; it'll definitely be your best gamble of the night. The winter drink menu at the bar "takes a detour from the typical coffee and hot chocolate drinks you will find this season," said Gibson. But, like the Brandy Chill, still incorporate flavors you want during the holiday. The Chill, served in a brandy snifter, is rich in look and taste. Aromatic, the taste reminds Gibson of a Terry's chocolate orange — and he's right.
"We took a timeless cocktail and balanced it with 100 percent Columbian coffee, then added Grand Marnier [to create the] bright and lively orange notes." The result is creamy and smooth — the brandy, GM and half and half blend to create a sinfully good dessert cocktail.
It's your chance to be little bad before turning over a new leaf for the rest of 2014. Or, in my case, setting more cocktail resolutions, like a planned return to Maryland Live to sample a few more.
