News item 3 -- Violence

Terrible things happened this year, from mass shootings in Aurora, Colo., and <a target="new" href="/entertainment/bthesite/hc-newtown-school-shooting-the-victims-20121215,0,1002351.photogallery">Newtown, Conn.,</a> to the alleged cannibalist at <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000128" title="Morgan State University" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/morgan-state-university-OREDU0000128.topic">Morgan State</a>. In Florida, a guy chewed off another guy's face. And in Baltimore, a year after we saw homicides dip to their lowest number in decades, <a href="http://data.baltimoresun.com/homicides/" target=new>we're back above 200 again.</a> Hopefully, new police Commissioner <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEPLT0008920" title="Anthony W. Batts" href="/topic/crime-law-justice/police/anthony-w.-batts-PEPLT0008920.topic">Anthony Batts</a> will turn around the trend, and help make 2013 a safer year.
