10. Towson football
Towson University football has one of the greatest turnarounds in the college game. A 9-3 record and first-ever NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearance gets students and alumni excited about the program again -- and even causes traffic jams on Osler Drive!

Let me first disclose I am associated with the Baltimore Marathon. With that saide, how in the world doesn't the Baltimore Marathon make this list? The event drew 25,000 runners from every state and 24 countries, had an estimated economic impact of $30 million, and raised more than $1 million for local charities. In the Sun itself several marathon related stories or pictures made the front page of not the sports section, but page A1! It's also a proven event, as this year marked the 11th running. WBAL TV covers the event live, and ratings were up 20% compared to last year.
