Spell on You, WC Harlan( Jazmine Johnson / Baltimore Sun / October 22, 2013 )
WC Harlan has made quite a name for itself by not actively seeking to make a name for itself. Co-owner Lane Harlan explained that since they don't have a menu, they made these drinks to order for us.
Spell on You has an orangey color that you automatically associate with Halloween, while the smoked sage garnish gives a fresh smell of fall. The smooth cognac gives Spell on You a warm winey taste, while the Fernet contributes a bitter chocolaty depth, which is lifted by the fruit. The lemon and peach flavors meld well together, and add a bright hint of freshness to Spell on You's deep flavor. Finally, the raw honey adds a bit of pure sweetness.
"A good Halloween drink is anything that is mysterious and has some history or story behind it," Harlan said. Also playing into that "myserious feel," WC Harlan will host a "Twin Peaks" TV show-themed Halloween party. The Spell on You and "Twin Peaks" -- a match made in creepy heaven.
