2. A Monumental Occasion

While we've never been huge fans of the Washington Monument-lighting event's name -- get it? It's a monument -- we've also have never missed this. Why? Hot cider, slightly cooler temps, singing, fireworks. General holiday spiritness, really. See -- we aren't so cynical after all. 5:30 p.m. festivities, 7 p.m. lighting.
