Baltimore vs. Washington, D.C. [Pictures]
Baltimore has always had an inferiority complex when it comes to Washington, D.C. Washington is like the better looking older sibling who gets all the credit, while Baltimore gets stuck with the bad reputation. Yes, the crime rate here may be rough, but Baltimore has a lot going for it. So does D.C., for that matter. Here is a side-by-side comparison of both cities, from the sports teams to the restaurants. Which is better? That's up to you to decide. Don't worry -- these categories are totally unbiased. We promise. -Sam Sessa

Washington Monument: Baltimore
Competed in 1829 -- almost 60 years before the one in D.C. -- Baltimore's Washington Monument towers over the gorgeous, historic Mount Vernon Place. During the holiday season, it's decked out in lights. Tall buildings near the Inner Harbor block out a portion of the view from the top, but that's a moot point at the moment -- the monument has been closed since 2010 for structural repairs.

Let's not forget, up until about 2005, before certain DC neighborhoods were completely taken over and cleaned up by yuppies, DC's crime rate was just as bad, if not worse than Baltimore's (DC was the nation's murder capital for something ridiculous like 10 years straight until about 2002). And lots of DC's criminals now reside in the suburbs of PG county due to gentrification, so if you combine the two, the crime rates are very similar between DC/PG and Baltimore.
I'm from DC but have very close family in east baltimore, and I love both cities (I'm a skins fan but an orioles fan!). I also consider the two as part of one larger metro area.
FAIL - why would baltimore have an inferiority complex? DC is the ones with the terrible football team. Maybe that's covered but between the ads and polls every other slide I only made it through about 12 clicks. These galleries really are getting old
