Books: Zadie Smith

One of the hottest writers in contemporary literary fiction visits Baltimore to read from her work. Smith burst on the global literary scene in 1997 — she was barely out of college — after an unfinished manuscript of her first novel, “White Teeth,” sparked a bidding war. Smith’s 2005 novel "On Beauty” was short-listed for the Man Booker Prize and won the Orange Prize for fiction. 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles St. Building location TBA. Free. writingseminars.jhu.edu. — MCM
