Books: Laura Amy Schlitz

The longtime Park School librarian and two-time Newbery honoree reads from her newest novel. “The Hired Girl,” set in 1911, tells the story of a 14-year-old farm girl who works for a wealthy Baltimore family. Schlitz’s story, which is told in diary form, abounds with such local landmarks as Druid Hill Park, Bolton Hill and the department stores that once lined Howard Street. 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at The Children’s Bookstore, 737 Deepdene Road.
