9:30 Club

The East Coast needs more 9:30 Clubs. The Washington live music staple has incredible sound and barely a bad spot to stand and watch. Heavyweight promotion machine I.M.P. books acts like James Brown in the place, which has a 1,200 capacity.

Where // 815 V St. N.W., Washington

Call // 202-393-0930

Website // 930.com

Notable // The club has two levels, an elevated stage and a few bars. You can also order bar food there.

Vibe // Intimate. Even when you stand in the far back row, you don't feel that removed.

What to wear // Depends on the show. When Billy Idol comes through, you'd better be in a jean jacket. Fans of Super Diamond: The Neil Diamond Experience might don something a little different.

Crowd // Since the club allows all ages, you could see a grandmom with her daugher and granddaughter in tow.

Music // Coming concerts include Story of the Year, Lifehouse, RJD2, Big Head Todd and the Monsters and Slightly Stoopid.
