Meet the Band: Polkadot Cadaver

Hometown // Baltimore

Members // Todd Smith, vocals and guitar; Jasan Stepp, guitar, keyboards and programming; John Ensminger, drums and percussion

Founded in // 2007

Style // Progressive metal

Influenced by // System of a Down, Radiohead, Beck, Frank Zappa

Notable // From the start, the trio wanted to be a studio band that played gigs only sporadically. Stepp worked out the framework for most of the songs on the debut album Purgatory Dance Party in his bedroom on his laptop, Smith said.

Quotable // "Technology is amazing," Smith said. "Back in the day, you would start with the drums. ... This is a good way to not have to write with a drummer. Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the pot."

Polkadot Cadaver performs with Given, Rest Among Ruins and Catatonik on Saturday at the Ottobar, 2549 N. Howard St. All ages. The music starts at 8 p.m. $12. Call 410-662-0069 or go to theottobar.com. The band: myspace.com/polkadotcadaver.
