Light City 2017 to feature Biz Markie and Dirty Dozen Brass Band, new art installations

2016 Fourth of July events in the Baltimore area

America’s founding fathers (and mothers) are trendier than ever (thanks, “Hamilton”), which could make this year’s Independence Day a celebration like never before.

Then again, since when has this country needed an excuse to celebrate with gusto the legacy of Washington, Jefferson, Adams and the rest?

Baltimore and the surrounding counties are replete with red, white and blue-soaked celebrations this weekend, from a naturalization ceremony in Annapolis to a water balloon toss in Bel Air — and fireworks all over, including, of course, the annual Inner Harbor extravaganza. Celebrating American independence quietly is just not the order of the day.

Here’s a list of July Fourth celebrations in and around Baltimore. Unless otherwise noted, everything will take place on Monday, the day the U.S. celebrates its 240th birthday. Also unless noted, all events are free
