Baltimore novelist Laura Lippman to release her first children's book

Roughly eight years ago, the crime novelist Laura Lippman embarked upon one of life’s greatest mysteries — motherhood.

So perhaps it’s not surprising that the bestselling author of nearly two-dozen novels has turned her keen observational skills and sense of humor to writing a children’s book. “Liza Jane & The Dragon,” which is illustrated by Kate Samworth, will be released Oct. 2 by Akashic Books.

“Liza Jane” tells the story of what happens after the young heroine fires her mother and father because she’s tired of all their rules and hires the first applicant who walks through the door.

A book launch party will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Ivy Bookshop, 6080 Falls Road. The book will sell for $16.95 and is recommended for youngsters from kindergarten through the third grades.
