'Hairspray: In Concert' featuring John Waters, the BSO [Pictures]
With help from a few of his friends -- including Broadway actors, Micky Dolenz of the Monkees fame, students from the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra -- John Waters brought the musical version of "Hairspray" back to Baltimore. The "semi-staged" version, complete with all the songs, the dancing and (in miniature, few-frills versions) the sets, was staged at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall Jan. 25-27.

With John Waters serving as narrator, you just knew this concert version of the hit musical was going to be fun. He provided fresh humor and cool insights into the show, while the BSO and a terrific cast, deftly conducted by Jack Everly, performed with contagious spirit.
