Marni Nixon cancels Baltimore Symphony appearance due to illness

Culture

This just in: Marni Nixon has had to cancel her scheduled appearance with the Baltimore Symphony this week due to what a press release from the orchestra describes as "a sudden temporary illness."

Nixon, the brilliant and engaging soprano who dubbed the singing voice of Natalie Wood in "West Side Story," was to have participated in a round-table discussion with cast members from that 1961 film on Friday evening, prior to the BSO's live soundtrack presentation of the movie.

Those cast members, who portrayed members of the rival gangs, will still be there for the discussion at 7 p.m. at Meyerhoff Hall -- Bert Michaels (Snowboy), Eddie Verso (Juano) and Harvey Evans (Mouth Piece).
