Another update from the casualty list.
You will recall that Baltimore Symphony Orchestra music director Marin Alsop injured her wrist in a fall earlier this month in Brazil. Turns out that some bones were broken.
"I am in a cast for several weeks, but the prognosis for full recovery is excellent as long as I follow the doctor's recommendations," Alsop said in an email. "So I am enjoying some unexpected time off."
Alsop canceled performances this month and into the first couple of weeks in August.Meanwhile, Placido Domingo, hospitalized last week in Madrid for a pulmonary embolism, was released over the weekend and is already talking about returning to the stage for a concert version of Verdi's "Giovanna d'Arco" at the Salzburg Festival in August (he is scheduled to sing the baritone role of Giacomo). Domingo spent part of his time in the hospital studying the score to that early Verdi opera.
Since being released, the famed singer paid a visit to the Teatro Real in Madrid to attend a dress rehearsal of Daniel Catan's "Il Postino" at Madrid's Teatro Real -- until sidelined by the illness, Domingo was to have starred in that production.
He issued a statement to the press that said, in part: "If my recovery goes well and I feel healthy, I can continue with my planned performance schedule next month."
