Photographer Chris Heier is the featured artist for February at the Sixth Avenue Gallery.
The Gallery is located inside of Mattress Matters, 20 Sixth Ave. S.E. An opening reception with wine and appetizers will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 5. The Union Grove Pickers from Sioux Falls will perform the same night at 9 p.m.
Heier, an Aberdeen native and Northern State University graduate, has been working professionally as a photographer since 2006. Heier said his work is influenced by photojournalists such as Alfred Eisenstaedt and environmental nature photographers like Jim Brandenburg and Art Wolfe and that he draws his inspiration from artists of all varieties.
That inspiration is apparent in his recent collaboration with local artist Marcus Murray. The two worked together to create the “Visions in Glass” series through which Heier photographed hand-blown glass beads created by Murray.
Photographic prints from the “Visions in Glass” series, as well as a variety of other photos, will be on display at the Sixth Avenue Gallery throughout the month of February.
