Located on an Upper Chesapeake Bay tributary, Talbot County's seat prides itself on its historic past. The town of 10,000 has been called the "Colonial Capital of the Eastern Shore" for the historic courthouse, churches and taverns lining its narrow streets. These buildings date back as far as the turn of the 18th century and feature a mix of Colonial, Federal and Victorian architecture. Walking tours have become a popular tourist pastime.
For all its colonial atmosphere, Easton boasts the modern amenities of a larger town, including upscale restaurants, specialty shops and the restored Avalon Theater. Easton also hosts the annual Waterfowl Festival, a celebration of nature and art that takes over the town's streets each November.--Eve Ellis
