Several food and wine-related businesses in Hampton Roads and parts of Eastern Virginia were big winners in the first-ever Reader’s Choice Awards announced in the summer issue of Virginia Wine Lover.
More than 7614 people responded to the magazine’s poll and cast votes in overall and regional categories. Here’s a snapshot:
Virginia Wine Overall — Chatham Vineyards on the Eastern Shore came in third in the category with its cabernet franc. First place winner was the Octagon blend from Barboursville Vineyards, and second place went to the meritage from Jefferson Vineyards.
Best White, Eastern region — Williamsburg Winery’s Acte 12 Chardonnay was the second place winner. First place went to Ingleside Vineyards’ Chesapeake Chardonnay, and third place to New Kent Winery’s Reserve Chardonnay.
Best Red, Eastern region — New Kent Winery’s meritage was in second place. There were two third-place winners, Hague Winery’s meritage and James River Cellars’ chambourcin.
Best Winery, Eastern region — Ingleside Vineyards was first, followed by New Kent Winery and Chatham Vineyards.
Best Wine Festival, Eastern region — Town Point Virginia Wine Festival took the first (fall) and second (spring) slots. Northern Neck Wine Festival in Kilmarnock was third.
Best Restaurant with Virginia Wine List, Eastern region — The Boot, Norfolk, first place; The Trellis Restaurant, Williamsburg, second place; River Stone Chophouse, Suffolk, third place.
Best Overall Cheese Shop — The Cheese Shop in Williamsburg was the second place winner. Top choice was Feast in Charlottesville, and third-place winner was Cheesetique in Alexandria.
Best B&B Overall — Magnolia House B&B in Hampton grabbed second-place honors. First place was Arcady Vineyard B&B in Charlottesville; the Inn at Meander Plantation in Locust Dale came in third.
Best B&B – Eastern region — Magnolia House was first followed by Country Villa B&B and Day Spa in Virginia Beach and Sea Gate B&B in Cape Charles.
