Video from Norfolk Beirut show posted on Pitchfork

Beirut, an indie-rock band that blends global folk sounds into its music, played The NorVa in Norfolk on Monday, May 9.

The band's not a chart-topping act, but it gets plenty of respect from music critics and underground rock fanatics. The group's leader, Zach Condon, considers Albuquerque, N.M., his main home town. But he started playing trumpet as a kid in Newport News. That's what was reported in a New York magazine profile of Beirut a few years back.

The indie rock website Pitchfork posted a few videos from the Norfolk concert. The videos show the band playing two new songs. Condon's trumpet skills are front and center in the first tune.

Thanks to James Duval for bringing this to my attention.
