Because its the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, you really can't get the word out too early regarding the potential for a traffic delay.
Today, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced it will conduct routine tide gate testing at the Interstate 64 HRBT on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The testing is part of a regular program that takes place every six months. Crews will first test to the eastbound gates and then the westbound gates. To keep the back up manageable, vehicles will be allowed to travel through the tunnel between closures.
Motorists should expect traffic delays up to 30 minutes in either direction during the stoppages, a VDOT statement said.
VDOT suggests motorists use the Interstate 664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route.
