Tune-Up Tuesday offers chance at free music collectibles

MusicElliott SmithAsleep at the Wheel (music group)

Once upon a time, record labels were so flush with cash they would send out promotional goodies to newspaper reporters. We're talking posters, stickers, guitar picks, matchbooks, even the occasional condom.

Because I'm a music-obsessed packrat, I've accumulated a lot of this stuff over my 19 years at the Daily Press. I'm overdue for a purge.

That's where you come in.

Partly in preparation for a move to new Daily Press offices and partly as a way to thank Daily Press readers, I'm ready to give a lot of this stuff away.

All you have to do is show up at my Tune-Up Tuesday event 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Goody's Deli & Pub in downtown Hampton. I'll hand out tickets and do drawings. If your number is drawn, you'll get to rummage through the box of wonders and take whatever you want.

In addition to the swag listed above (and much more of it), a few CDs and DVDs will be swimming around in that Goody's goody box. As they say in the promotional world, you do have to be present to win.

Here's an inventory of the items pictured, clockwise starting bottom left, in the photo above:

1) Candlebox prescription-style note pad

2) Hand fan promoting the Squirrel Nut Zippers album "Hot"

3) Misfits sticker

4) Brooks & Dunn 2002 tour program

5) Asleep at the Wheel auto air freshener

6) Elliott Smith "XO" sticker

7) Don Henley special edition "Inside Job" CD set

8) Dixie Chicks guitar pick

9) Egypt matchbook
