Corey Lyons hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining and then sank 3 of 4 free throws to give Norfolk State a 74-71 victory over South Carolina State in the semifinals of the MEAC tournament Friday night in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Spartans (13-17), who rallied from 10 down in the second half, plays tonight against top-seeded Morgan State in the school's first MEAC final appearance.
Lyons, who finished with 17 points, hit a long-range shot to give the third-seeded Spartans a 71-69 edge in a back-and-forth final minute that saw three lead changes. South Carolina State's Jessie Burton missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer off the back of the rim.
Michael Deloach scored 20 points to lead the Spartans, but fouled out with 2:24 remaining.
Josh Jackson scored 18 points to lead the second-seeded Bulldogs (17-14).
Reggie Holmes scored 25 points to lead Morgan State (22-11) in its 75-67 victory over defending champion and crosstown rival Coppin State. Tywain McKee scored 30 for the fifth-seeded Eagles (13-19).

Tournament MVP Garrison Carr scored 24 points, launching some momentum-swinging 3-pointers whenever his team needed them, but there was little doubt the Eagles (24-7) won because they didn't give conference rookie of the year R.J. Evans and the rest of the Crusaders (18-14) room to breathe.

SEC quarterfinalsIn Tampa, Fla, Marcus Thornton scored 21 points and No. 20 LSU (26-6) beat Kentucky 67-58 and most likely ended the Wildcats' streak of NCAA appearances at 17. Patrick Patterson led with Wildcats (20-13) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. ... Barry Stewart scored 21 points, most of them from 3-point range, and Mississippi State (21-12) beat South Carolina 82-68. Zam Fredrick led the Gamecocks (21-9) with 20 points. ...
