Preview and our pick for the Virginia Tech-East Carolina game

Daily Press

EAST CAROLINA (2-0) at VIRGINIA TECH (0-2)

WHEN: 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: Lane Stadium, Blacksburg

VIDEO/RADIO: ESPN3; XM 194, Sirius 216, 790AM

THE BUZZ: With Tech off to its worst start in 15 years, expect a return to basics today on the offensive side. ECU has no trouble moving the ball behind its Texas Tech-like spread offense, but stopping opposing offenses has been another story. The Pirates are 111th in the nation in total defense (496 yards per game). Tech likely will try to get running back Ryan Williams (just 131 combined rushing yards in the first two games) going, and sprinkle in carries from Darren Evans and David Wilson. On defense, Tech's linebackers and secondary will be tested by Boston College transfer quarterback Dominique Davis (627 yards passing, eight touchdowns and one interception in two games).

THE PICK: Virginia Tech 38-20.
