Old Dominion did not invite back reserve forward Jason Pimentel for his sophomore season, Monarchs coach Blaine Taylor said Friday.
"We thought it would be in our best interest not to invite Jason back," Taylor said. He added that Pimentel was eligible by both school and NCAA standards, and that the decision was a result of cumulative situations and not a single incident.
Pimentel, a 6-8 forward from Ocala, Fla., played in 28 games last season for the Monarchs. He averaged 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
There was no word on Pimentel's future plans.
Pimentel's departure leaves the Monarchs with only five players who appeared in games for them last season: Donte Hill, Nick Wright, Dimitri Batten, Richard Ross and Anton Larsen.
ODU has seven new players for the 2012-13 season, its last as a member of the CAA -- six freshmen and transfer DeShawn Painter, a Norfolk native who played his first three years at N.C. State. He transferred to be closer to family and received an NCAA waiver to be eligible immediately.
The Monarchs also have made recruiting progress for the Class of 2013, with commitments from Hampton High guard Jordan Baker and Kellam forward Ramone Snowden. Those two, as well as 6-7 Kecoughtan forward Rodney Bullock, are taking official visits to ODU this weekend.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
