Stung by Wednesday's Freeman Center-record 30-point loss to Mary Washington, the 13th-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team got back on track Saturday with a 72-51 home victory over Penn State-Harrisburg.
Taylor Delgado scored 17 points in just 15 minutes, hitting 5 of 10 shots from 3-point range.
CNU (20-3, 12-2) clinched the second seed in the six-team Capital Athletic Conference tournament, giving the Captains a first-round bye and home semifinal. York (Pa.) is likely to finish first.
Nicole Mitchell added 14 points and 10 rebounds, Camry Green had eight points and 13 rebounds, and Brandi Holland had 13 points and six steals for the Captains, who must adjust to the loss of standout Tia Perry -- likely for the rest of her senior season -- with a foot injury.
Kiara Carter led the Lions (6-17, 1-13) with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Brittany Glasco and Nancy Kelly scored 12 apiece for VWC, while Kerri-Leanne Taylor had 11 points and nine rebounds. Taylor Catron scored 23 for Hollins (6-17, 1-13).
Texas-El Paso 65, ODU 55
UTEP closed the game on an 11-1 run to beat Old Dominion before 3,972 at the Constant Center in the 12th annual Hoops For a Cure game.
Shae Kelley scored 19 points for ODU (11-14, 4-7 Conference USA). Odegua Oigbokie scored 10, one shy of her career high.
Kayla Thornton had 23 points and 10 rebounds for UTEP (20-4, 9-2), while the Miners' Jenzel Nash had 17 points.
Warwick High graduate LaQuanda Younger sank a 3-pointer to tie the score at 54, but ODU never netted another field goal.
“This was such a great atmosphere; the Ted was electric tonight," ODU coach Karen Barefoot said on ODUsports.com. "Our team fought really hard and showed growth throughout the game. We are so close. We will keep believing and continue to improve every day."
