After yielding a goal in the final second of regulation, the Norfolk Admirals bounced back to win their AHL opener 3-2 at Hartford in a 2-1 overtime shootout.
The Admirals, in their second year of Anaheim Ducks affiliation, led 2-0 early in the third period on goals by Steven Whitney and Rickard Rakell, but the New York Rangers-affiliated Wolf Pack answered with Danny Kristo’s power-play goal and Darroll Powe’s buzzer-beater.
Rakell and teammate Devante Smith-Pelly scored among the four Admirals who participated in the shootout. Norfolk goalie Frederik Andersen limited the Wolf Pack to one goal in five tries.
The Admirals stay in Connecticut to play at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the New York Islanders' top farm team.
Mak Casey was the top male finisher and Kristin Milner was the top female finisher in the Poquoson Seafood Festival 5K.
Casey, 15, of Poquoson, finished in 17 minutes, 38 seconds. Milner, 28, of Newport News, finished in 21:44.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
