Starter Chris Archer pitched six innings of three-hit ball for the win as the Durham Bulls (27-18) cut Norfolk’s South Division lead to three games, holding off the Tides 3-2 in a series opener at Harbor Park.

Brandon Wood hit a home run for the Tides (30-15).

Eastern League:

Trenton (24-21) scored three eighth-inning runs -- the first on Daryl Maday's wild pitch and the last two on Slade Heathcott’s double off him -- to win 3-0 at Richmond (21-22).

Soccer:

Stanley Nyazamba scored twice as the Richmond Kickers defeated Icon FC of Montville, N.J., 4-1 at City Stadium in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Kickers, from the USL Pro league, will play host to their parent club, Major League Soccer’s D.C. United, Tuesday, May 28, in the third round.

Icon FC is from the United States Adult Soccer Association, a fifth-tier league.
