John Gibson, who was named the AHL Goaltender of the Month for October, made 34 saves as the Norfolk Admirals (6-2-0-2) rolled to a 3-0 win at Albany (5-4-0-1), extending the Devils’ regulation losing streak to three.
Jamie MacQueen and Maxime Sauve scored in the first period, and Steven Whitney converted in the second as the Admirals shut out the Devils, who are coached by Admirals Hall of Famer Rick Kowalsky. Norfolk was playing the first of three road games in three days.
In October, Gibson was 3-1-2 with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage.
No. 7 seed Rhyne Williams, a former Tennessee standout, upended No. 2 Somdev Devvarman 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in a quarterfinal of the $75,000 Charlottesville Challenger on Boar’s Head Sports Club’s indoor hard courts.
Rookie pro Jarmere Jenkins, like Devvarman a former U.Va. star, fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to U.S. veteran Michael Russell.
