Virginia Beach will host the first American Basketball Association team reunion with the Virginia Squires, who played many of their games in Norfolk, along with some in Hampton, Richmond and Roanoke.
The Virginia Squires Legends Reunion will be held May 1 and 2 and will benefit local charities. The Squires moved to Virginia in 1970 and played in the area through the 1975-76 season.
Among the former Squires confirmed to attend are Dave Twardzik, a former Old Dominion star who is now the Monarchs’ color commentator; Barry Parkhill, a U.Va. standout in the early 1970s; and former North Carolina star Charlie Scott. Also confirmed are Mike Barr, Mack Calvin, Jim Eakins, Lamar Green, George Irvine, Neil Johnson, Doug Moe, Ray Scott and Fatty Taylor.
The reunion will start May 1 at 3 p.m. when the Squires players will join 76ers legend Wali Jones, Bobby Hunter from the Harlem Globetrotters and Susan Sommers from the WNBA for a basketball clinic for area youth at Williams Farm Recreational Center.
On Thursday evening, a VIP reception will be held at the Cavalier Beach Club at 7 p.m. Friday, the Business Appreciation Charity Golf Classic at Virginia Beach National Golf Club will include the Squires.
Apprentice School fell 4-3 to Bloomsburg in 10 innings in the first game of the Builder Invitational at War Memorial Stadium.

Norfolk State’s Devin Hemmerich, a freshman left-hander who pitched a total of four scoreless innings in relief outings last week during losses to Furman and Toledo, was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
Norfolk State outfielder Morgan Boyd was named a candidate for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award. She is one of 30 Division I softball candidates who was named to the preseason list of the award, which honors seniors who have excelled on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
Boyd was a second-team All-MEAC player last season and could become NSU’s all-time hits leader this season, and she made the MEAC All-Academic team as a sophomore and junior.
Norfolk State rescheduling:
Because of Friday’s weather forecast, the Spartan Classic will have three games Saturday and just one on Friday — Buffalo against the Spartans at 10 a.m. All of Friday’s softball games in NSU’s Spartan Clash were canceled, so the tournament will start Saturday.
