Coastal Carolina running back Lorenzo Taliaferro, a Bruton High graduate, was named the Big South Offensive Player of the Year.
His bruising running has led the Chanticleers to the FCS playoffs. They'll meet Bethune-Cookman in a first-round home game Saturday in Conway, S.C.
William and Mary kick returner/punt returner Tre McBride was named the Colonial Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Year. He was joined on the All-CAA first team by teammates Airek Green, Luke Rhodes, Jerome Couplin III, Mike Reilly and Matt Crisafi.
Richmond wide receiver Ben Edwards, a York High graduate, made the first team despite an injury-plagued senior season, and Delaware freshman Eric Enderson from Phoebus High was the second-team punter. Richmond’s Aaron Roane, from West Point, was a third-team linebacker.
Top honors went to Towson running back Terrance West (offense), James Madison linebacker Stephon Robertson (defense) and Maine coach Jack Cosgrove.
Virginia defensive lineman Brent Urban was invited to play in the Senior Bowl, the Daily Progress of Charlottesville reported.
Touchdown Club honors:
U.Va. teammates Anthony Harris (Defensive Back of the Year) and Morgan Moses (Offensive Lineman of the Year) were honored by the Touchdown Club of Richmond, the city where they grew up.
No. 12 Virginia Tech won 29-3 at Old Dominion (2-3), whose only victory came at 157 pounds (7-2) from Tristan Warner in the night's last bout.
In the national poll, the Hokies (8-1) had just fallen behind No. 11 Virginia, which beat them last weekend. ODU was 27th (second among others receiving votes).
The match -- which attracted 1,489 to the Constant Center -- started at 165 pounds, where Tech's Chris Moon won an 11-2 major decision over Dillon Geoghegan. The most anticipated bout of the night came at 141, where Devin Carter beat ODU's Chris Mecate 9-3. Carter is ranked third nationally, Mecate ninth.
Virginia sophomore Courtney Bartholomew was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Female Swimmer of the Week.
At Ohio State's meet last weekend, the Holland, Mich., native set ACC records of 50.73 in the 100-yard backstroke (fifth in the nation this season) and 1:50.55 in the 200 back (fastest in the nation this season). ...
