JMU QB out after appendectomy
James Madison sophomore starting quarterback Michael Birdsong is out indefinitely after an emergency appendectomy, which was prompted by stomach pains he incurred Monday night. Coach Mickey Matthews said Birdsong’s appendix did not burst, though.
Lafonte Thourogood, a Vanderbilt transfer from Ocean Lakes High in Virginia Beach, will be JMU’s No. 1 quarterback for now. JMU’s only player besides Birdsong who has been in a college game at quarterback is Dae’Quan Scott, who did so in a Wildcat formation.
Thorpe to Virginia State
Recent JMU graduate Justin Thorpe will play, and most likely start, at QB for Division II Virginia State in his sixth year of eligibility, according to the Daily News-Record.
VSU’s coach is former Hampton University player and JMU assistant Latrell Scott.
