Plagued by 24 turnovers, the Hampton Pirates couldn’t hold a first-half lead and fell 56-51 Friday afternoon to the Wofford Terriers at a tournament in Wilmington, N.C.
David Bruce led HU with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Dwight Meikle had nine points. Freshman point guard Deron Powers had eight points and five assists.

Senior Tevin Andrews scored 23 points and hauled in 12 rebounds as the Apprentice School knocked off NCAA Division II Claflin (S.C.) in the opening game of the Elizabeth City State Classic.
Lavontae Thomas scored 16 for the Builders, who went 5-of-6 on free throws to hold on after a 10-2 Claflin run cut the Builders’ lead to two.
