Tennessee's baseball team edged Virginia Tech 5-4 Tuesday in the Hokie-Smokey Classic in Greeneville, Tenn.

The Hokies lost though Gary Schneider and Sean Keselica drove in two runs apiece. ...

Danny Grauer and Ryan Cordell slugged two-run homers as Liberty (20-17) beat Old Dominion 6-2 in Lynchburg.

The Monarchs (18-17) lost despite three-hit nights by sophomores Josh Eldridge and Michael Perez.

Men's tennis:

Graham Wilson of Newport News became the winningest rookie in the 44-year history of Virginia Wesleyan's men's tennis program.
Wilson, a Menchville High graduate, bounced Lynchburg's Matt Karvelas 6-0, 6-2 and Hampden-Sydney's Zach King 6-4, 6-5, retired. That improved his singles record to 23-6. 

Not only is it a VWC rookie record, but it ties the third-highest victory total by a Marlins player, recorded by Eric Caudill in 2006. Wilson is 17-4 at the No. 1 flight, which is also a rookie record for wins and ties the VWC record set by Scott Barlow at that flight in 1981. ...

William and Mary received the No. 2 seed in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament, which the Tribe will host from Friday-Sunday.UNC Wilmington earned the No. 1 seed. ...

Old Dominion gained the No. 5 seed in the Conference USA tournament in Memphis, Tenn.

In their first venture to the C-USA tournament, the Monarchs will face No. 4 Southern Methodist in the first round at 11 a.m. Friday. ODU is ranked 68th nationally.Women's tennis:William and Mary was seeded first for the Colonial Athletic Association tournament, which the Tribe will serve as host from Friday through Sunday.

UNC Wilmington is the second seed, James Madison the third. ...

Old Dominion got the No. 9 seed for its first trip to the Conference USA tournament in Houston. The Monarchs (12-8), who have played just one C-USA match (losing 4-3 to Marshall) will face No. 8 Alabama Birmingham (12-7) at 1 p.m. in Thursday's first round.


Norfolk State (20-18) swept N.C. Central 8-0 and 9-4, moving over .500 overall for the first time this season.

Jamie Schulle pitched a four-hit shutout in Game 1, which also included Kathy Cortez's 3-for-4 batting and a 2-for-4, two-run, two-RBI game from Alina Moriarty.

Moriarty batted 3-for-4 in Game 2, which Liz Riley won in relief against the Eagles (3-35).

Men's golf:

Apprentice School placed third in the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial tournament at Williamsburg Club.

The Builders' top four combined for a 314 Tuesday for a 632 total and moved up a spot in the standings. Apprentice's Ben Hunter fired a 72 Tuesday and placed second at 1-under-par 141, setting a school tournament record. Robert Erhardt of Wesley shot 67 Tuesday for the medal.

SUNY Delhi won the tournament with a second-round 305 and 616 total, edging Lynchburg (308-309-617) by a stroke.
