Inside the PD: On tap for Friday

Here's what's on tap Friday in the Peninsula District.

BASEBALL

Game of the Day

Menchville (14-2, 13-2) at Hampton (13-3, 13-2). It very well might come down to this, though both teams have to play Kecoughtan next week. The Crabbers won the earlier meeting 4-2 on March 29 with Kevin Matthews beating Garrett Chrismon, but neither is expected to start this game. The winner will have a one-game lead in the standings with two games left in the regular season. Menchville is shooting for its third district title in the last four years. Hampton is going for its first since 2008.

Others on the docket:

Bethel (9-7, 8-7) at Warwick (9-7, 8-7)
Gloucester (9-8, 9-6) at Denbigh (3-12, 3-12)
Heritage (0-15, 0-15) at Kecoughtan (11-6, 9-6)
Phoebus (2-13, 2-13) at Woodside (10-5, 10-5)

SOFTBALL

Game of the Day

Bethel (9-6, 9-6) at Warwick (8-8, 8-7). The Bruins are in fourth place; the Raiders are tied for fifth. So, yes, it’s Game of the Day sort of by default. But the previous game between the two was entertaining enough. The Raiders scored two in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead, but the Bruins scored four in the bottom half to win 9-7.

Others on the docket:

Heritage (5-11, 5-10) at Kecoughtan (13-3, 13-2)
Menchville (13-2, 13-2) at Hampton (2-13, 2-13)
Gloucester (15-1, 14-1) at Denbigh (2-13, 2-13)
Phoebus (1-14, 1-14) at Woodside (8-7, 8-7)

Game of the Day

Bethel (4-2-0, 12) at Menchville (7-0-0, 21). The Monarchs have outscored their last four opponents 17-0. They have a three-point lead over Gloucester and Kecoughtan, both of whom should win today. The Bruins have a three-game week which will shape their final standing.

Others on the docket:

Denbigh (2-4-1, 7) at Woodside (4-3-0, 12)

Gloucester (6-1-0, 18) at Phoebus (0-7-0, 0)
